Privacy
Kept simple, like a good field note
What this website collects
Nothing about visitors. This site does not use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind. Your browser keeps a few small notes on your own device, which never leave it: that you have seen the opening film (deleted when you close the tab), whether sound effects are on, the detector you last looked up in the settings tool, and, if you are a member, that you are signed in.
Newsletter and dig alerts
If you sign up for the newsletter, the club keeps your email address (and your first name, if you give it) to send you new dig dates, where to meet on the day and club news. It is never shared or sold. Until the club’s sign up list is running, signing up sends an email to the club instead, and the club keeps your address the same way. To stop the emails, reply to any of them or email info@smmdc.co.uk and you will be taken off the list.
Member accounts and finds
If you make a member account to post your finds, the club keeps your name, your email address and the finds you send (the photos and what you write about them). They are stored with Supabase, the database service the club uses. Photos are resized on your own device, and any location data in them is removed, before they are sent. Your email address is never shown on the site. A find appears only once a club admin has approved it, shown with your name and the period and county you gave. Ask us at any time to delete your account and your finds.
When you contact us
The form on the map does not send anything to this website. It opens your own email app with your message ready to send to info@smmdc.co.uk. When you email or call us, we use your details only to reply and to arrange club activities, and we do not sell or share them.
Links to other sites
Some links go to other websites, such as our Facebook group, GOV.UK and the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
